What to do if you have Bloating, Gas, Abdominal swelling after taking algae supplements.

We rarely encounter abdominal swelling or bloating or gas as a common outcome from any of our products. However, every individual is unique, and there are a few possibilities we can explore together to understand what might be happening.

What Could Be Causing This?

Here are a few potential explanations for the bloating you’ve noticed:

1.     Detoxification Reaction (Herxheimer Reaction):

AFA algae is packed with nutrients and antioxidants that support your body’s natural detoxification processes. For some people, this can temporarily cause bloating or discomfort as the body adjusts and begins flushing out stored toxins.  Be sure to drink plenty of water so the toxins can be gently removed from your body.

2.     Phenylethylamine (PEA) Sensitivity:

AFA algae, and especially BrainON, is rich in PEA, a natural compound that boosts mood and mental clarity. While most people benefit from this, in rare cases, sensitive individuals might experience mild inflammation or bloating as the body adapts to the new compound.  Drink plenty of water to help your body adjust.

3.     Gut Microbiome Adjustment:

AFA algae can have prebiotic-like effects, nourishing beneficial gut bacteria. If there’s any existing imbalance in your microbiome, it’s possible that this adjustment period might cause temporary swelling or gas.  Again, we recommend to drink plenty of water to help your body adjust.

4.     Digestive Sensitivities:

Although extremely rare, some individuals may have sensitivities to the proteins or bioactives naturally present in the AFA algae, which could lead to inflammation or fluid retention.

5.     Other Factors at Play:

It’s also worth considering whether hormonal changes, diet, or pre-existing digestive conditions could be contributing. The timing of starting AFA algae supplements could simply be coincidental. You may want to consider adding our E3Probiotics Gut Rescue and our E3Enzymes Professional Strength that may also assist in helping your overall digestion and well-being.
